Pregnant
women causes of death – homicide ranks 3rd, but it is
arguably the leading cause of death. World wide rankings for this
have not until recently been seriously studied. For instance, when
the homicide rates for women within 42 months of giving birth are
considered the statistics become even more alarming. Other factors
studied include women in their first trimester whose condition was
not considered when citing the cause of death. Recent studies by the
BBC demonstrate that homicide is the leading cause of death among
pregnant women and those recently giving birth. Furthermore, these
studies show that the poor and minority women are those who are
murdered most. These stats hold up in the US as well as the rest of
the world. Discussions surrounding abortion must take in the
consequences of such stats.
When
political discussions simply draw a line in the sand and violent
insistence that this is the right thing, and only this is the right
thing, it is rarely, if ever taken into consideration that we will
find mistakes within our reasoning, however well-intended.
I
have advocated that marijuana should be legalized and taxed. This
with the knowledge that physical consequences would be openly analyzed
and lead to other sorts of arguments. I was not expecting that
marijuana candies and food would so quickly and dangerously be
introduced into the mix. Short-sighted of me, but it is another step
in learning.
With
everything good comes something bad, and with everything bad comes
something good. It is the nature of progress and understanding that
we come to grips with differing views. We must not let the media and
political, or even religious, trash talk make up our minds for us.
